Topic tracking update expands parental oversight of teen AI interactions User conversations categorized into monitorable themes for parents
Meta has announced the rollout of a new feature allowing parents to track the topics their underage children discuss with its artificial intelligence chatbot, in a move aimed at strengthening parental controls across its platforms.
According to the company, the tool will be integrated into existing supervision features for teen accounts, where parents will be able to access an “Insights” dashboard showing the main subjects their children have engaged with via Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger over the past week.
The categories include broad areas such as education, entertainment, lifestyle, travel, writing, and health, with the option to drill down into more specific interests within each group—for example fashion or food under lifestyle, and fitness or mental health under health.
Meta said the feature is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Brazil, with plans to expand it to other markets in the coming weeks.
The update comes as part of broader efforts by the company to strengthen safeguards for minors interacting with AI tools and to give parents more visibility into how these systems are being used by teenagers.
