  • Funding round nearing 2 billion yuan ($276M), led by Xiaomi’s investment arm
  • Robots designed to handle household tasks like cleaning, organizing, and daily assistance

Chinese robotics company “X Square Robot”, which specializes in smart robots, has announced securing a major funding round worth nearly 2 billion yuan (around $276 million), led by the investment arm of Xiaomi, with participation from prominent tech investors in China.

The funding comes as part of the company’s expansion into developing a new generation of robots capable of performing everyday household tasks, marking a step toward moving the technology from labs into real-world use.

Company founder and CEO Wang Qian said the next-generation robot, powered by an in-house artificial intelligence model, will be able to begin performing home tasks such as cleaning and organizing starting from the end of May.

He explained that the system represents a shift in how robots operate, as it has been trained on real-world data collected from hundreds of households, rather than relying on pre-programmed commands like traditional robots.

According to the company, the robots have already been tested in real home environments in cooperation with a local services platform, where they assisted in cleaning tasks alongside human workers in what is described as one of the early large-scale trials of home robotics integration.

However, the company acknowledged that the technology is still in a trial phase, with occasional minor errors such as misplacing tools or temporary interruptions that may require remote intervention.

Despite this, the company says the system continues to improve, operates continuously, and becomes more accurate with each deployment thanks to ongoing learning from real household data.
