- Passengers survive unexpected landing in quiet residential neighborhood
- Sudden weather shift forces flight crew into emergency descent
An unusual incident unfolded in Temecula, California, after a large hot air balloon was forced to make an emergency landing inside a residential backyard, carrying 13 people including the pilot and passengers.
Homeowner Hunter Perrin said he had no idea what had happened until a neighbor alerted him to the balloon in his garden. “I was watching TV and my wife was doing yoga when someone knocked on the door and said they just landed here… I was completely stunned,” he said.
Footage showed the balloon settling with precision into a small grassy area measuring only around three meters wide, without causing any damage to the house or surrounding trees.
His wife, Jenna Perrin, described the scene as “something out of a fairy tale,” noting that the balloon passed close to the fence but avoided any impact with the home.
Among the passengers were Brianna Avalos and her husband, who were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary during the flight.
She explained that the pilot informed passengers of the emergency landing due to low fuel and shifting wind conditions.
After landing, the pilot safely disembarked passengers, then took off again and later brought the balloon down in a nearby street where it was dismantled.
Avalos praised the pilot’s handling of the situation, saying he acted with remarkable professionalism during the emergency.
The owner of the tour company, Deni Barrett, said the pilot “made a wise decision and handled the situation correctly” during the incident.
