The famous parrot Bebe went viral on social media after his owner took him on a snorkeling trip using a small submarine specially designed for him in the Bahamas.
Owner Steven Lawyer built the submarine from a large food container, equipped it with two air valves and a one-way valve, allowing Bebe to explore the depths in a way unusual for a bird.
The submarine was fitted with an oxygen cylinder and lead weights for optimal buoyancy, as well as an oxygen meter to ensure Bebe’s safety underwater.
Lawyer said, “I wanted to make sure Bebe had enough fresh air,” noting that the submarine was first tested in a bathtub before venturing into the sea.
He added, “We chose a snorkeling spot in a protected harbor with no strong currents, so there was no risk to him.”
Bebe is known for taking part in unusual adventures with his owner, accompanying him on an 800-kilometer cycling race every year with 20,000 participants, becoming a social media sensation and fan favorite.
His most daring activity, however, has been skydiving, with 15 jumps since last fall. Bebe enjoys jumping from a plastic bubble strapped to his owner’s belly.
