  • The "Artemis 2" crew enjoys a wide variety of space foods and drinks
  • Their meals include simple-to-prepare items as well as heated options suitable for zero gravity

Eating in space isn’t a fancy Michelin-star experience, but it’s still exciting and fun.

The "Artemis 2" mission is no exception, with a menu featuring foods like macaroni and cheese, smoked beef, cheesy broccoli, and tortillas.

The four-member crew — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Jeremy Hansen, and Christina Koch — have 189 different food options during their trip around the Moon.

Tortillas are especially popular since they’re easy to pack, fold, and eat without food floating around in zero gravity.

Friday breakfast included vegetable quiche, scrambled eggs, peaches, and oatmeal.

NASA’s public affairs officer, Lia Chisholm-Mustachio, said live from the mission: “There’s even muffins to enjoy today.”

Coffee is in high demand, with NASA providing 43 cups for the crew — more than 10 cups per astronaut over the 10-day mission.

A new feature of this mission is the ability to serve warm food using a bag-shaped heater — a luxury not available on previous Apollo missions.

Besides coffee, astronauts have at least nine other drink options, including lemonade, green tea, and apple juice, plus breakfast drinks in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. Each astronaut gets two non-water drinks per day, according to NASA.

There are also five types of hot sauces and plenty of sweets, mostly cookies and chocolate.

NASA said the crew directly helped select the menu, including taste-testing before the flight.

“The crew tries all the standard menu items, rates them, and balances their preferences with nutritional requirements and what the Orion spacecraft can accommodate,” the agency added.
