Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel Wahab has received another legal ruling in her favor, as her lawyer, Yasser Qantoush, announced on Facebook.
The Helwan Court ruled that her brother, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, must pay $120,000 plus 4% annual interest from the date of the claim until the full amount is settled.
This follows an earlier judgment by the Cairo Economic Misdemeanor Court, which fined him 50,000 EGP for taking control of the singer’s official social media accounts and ordered him to pay 20,000 EGP in compensation after he was found to have earned illegal profits from them.
According to Qantoush, these rulings reaffirm the protection of personal and artistic rights and highlight the importance of respecting the law in handling artists’ digital and intellectual property.
The Mokatam Misdemeanor Court in Cairo had previously sentenced the singer’s brother to six months in prison, with a bail of 2,000 Egyptian pounds, over charges of breaking into her home and damaging its contents.
The events of the case date back to last December, when Sherine Abdel Wahab filed a complaint against her brother, accusing him of assaulting her inside her apartment and destroying its contents.
