The Lebanese military court decided on Tuesday to delay the trial of Fadl Shaker until May 26, following a request from his lawyer to submit further documents and procedures.
During the session, the court heard from Walid al-Belbisi, Shaker’s former aide, who recounted his presence with the singer during the Abra events, explaining how Shaker left the area as clashes broke out between Ahmad al-Assir’s group and the Lebanese army.
Al-Belbisi noted that Shaker had been asleep when the fighting started, was briefly hidden in a music shop until dawn, and was later moved to the Ain al-Hilweh camp after the clashes subsided.
He added that the weapons in Shaker’s group’s possession were handed over to the Lebanese army in coordination with the command.
This session is part of the ongoing trial, while Shaker’s defense team prepares to submit additional requests before completing legal procedures.
Fadl Shaker had voluntarily surrendered last October at the army intelligence checkpoint at “al-Hisbah” in Ain al-Hilweh camp, ending more than twelve years of absence from the media and public life.
Upon his personal appearance, all previous absentia verdicts were canceled, and the four cases related to the Abra events were reopened for review.
Shaker faces charges of participating in or assisting the clashes in Abra in 2013 between Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir’s group and the Lebanese army.
During his years in hiding, Shaker denied all allegations against him, insisting that the armed group accompanying him was only for his protection, and that he had left the area a few days before the clashes began.
He previously emphasized that his case has political dimensions and said he had received serious threats that forced him to take refuge in Ain al-Hilweh to protect his life.
