Interest in the possibility of ancient civilizations on Mars has resurfaced after recently circulating footage appeared to show a triangular formation on the Red Planet’s surface, prompting widespread online discussion.

The formation was first noticed in 2001 by researcher Keith Laney while examining images from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor mission, who observed what he believed could be an artificial object.

Laney previously told the Daily Mail: “If this were found on Earth, researchers would have started digging and investigating immediately.”

The discovery gained renewed attention recently after documentary filmmaker Brian Dobbs reshared the footage, claiming that “on Mars there is a three-sided pyramid the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt.”
