A man in his mid-thirties and his two children, aged 3 and 4, tragically died on Monday after inhaling gas leaking from an oil heater inside their home in Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, amid the region's cold weather wave.

Sources in the country reported that the man's wife also suffered from gas inhalation and was urgently transported to the hospital for treatment, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit to monitor her health condition.

An informed source stated that the relevant authorities have begun investigations to uncover the circumstances of the incident.

Reports indicate that this accident is not the first of its kind, as similar incidents have been recorded in Kurdistan Region governorates and other Iraqi provinces, resulting from people leaving heaters on during sleep while closing windows, leading to suffocation that claimed the lives of several families in previous periods.

Authorities have warned of the dangers of using heaters at night in enclosed spaces, urging citizens to take safety measures such as continuous ventilation and monitoring heating devices to prevent the recurrence of such tragic accidents.
