• Meteorite fragments rain down on homes near Koblenz

Fragments from a meteorite struck houses and rooftops near Koblenz in western Germany on Sunday evening, causing property damage but no injuries.

Police said reports of the damage began arriving from Koblenz and surrounding areas around 7 p.m. local time.

A police spokesperson explained, “A burning celestial object hit the roof of a residential building in the Güls district of Koblenz. No one was harmed. Current information indicates there is no ongoing danger.”

Concern and confusion spread after residents spotted a mysterious light in the sky, prompting police to investigate.

Many people shared photos of the event on social media from the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Baden-Württemberg.

Some witnesses described seeing “a bright object with a short flash of fire” or “a fireball in the sky,” while others speculated it might have been a rocket.

Authorities confirmed there is “no evidence of any security-related incident.”
