• Death toll rises to 12 in Brazil nursing home collapse in Minas Gerais

Brazil’s civil defense reported that the number of victims from the nursing home collapse in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, on March 5 has risen to 12.

Rescue teams pulled eight survivors from the rubble, while nine others had managed to escape the building on their own before it collapsed.

The last victim recovered was a 77-year-old woman, found trapped under the debris and pronounced dead more than 24 hours after the incident.

Initial reports suggest that the collapse may be linked to human interference in the building’s structure, as expansion work had been underway. Authorities, however, have not confirmed a direct connection.

Investigations continue to determine the exact cause of this tragic event.
