- 12-Year-old boy dies suddenly during soccer practice
A 12-year-old boy collapsed unexpectedly while practicing soccer and was rushed to the hospital by emergency teams, but he tragically passed away.
Adriel Enriques collapsed at a soccer field during a training session with Platinum IE, his uncle Joshua Gutierrez wrote on social media.
“What started as a normal day doing what he loved turned into every parent’s nightmare,” Gutierrez added.
Emergency crews responded immediately, according to Eric Sherwin, fire chief of San Bernardino County. Adriel was quickly transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His uncle confirmed that Adriel had no known health problems and described his death as sudden and shocking, sharing a post and video on Facebook in his memory.
Adriel had been playing with Platinum IE since May 2024. Coaches and teammates remembered him as a positive presence who left a lasting impact on everyone.
The club said: “He was the kindest and calmest person, carrying a quiet strength that touched everyone around him. He will always be number 23 in our hearts.”
Thousands of people responded to the post, with around 200 leaving condolences in the comments.
Adriel’s death occurred during an unusually warm winter day in Southern California, when temperatures reached 31°C (88°F), according to the National Weather Service.
The official cause of death has not yet been determined by the county coroner.
