Victims die before reaching hospital; driver faces charges of “causing death of two due to negligence”

A tragic accident claimed the lives of two young girls in a northern city, after they were hit by a small truck while attempting to cross a main road at a red pedestrian signal, according to the ongoing trial proceedings.

A video clip showed the heartbreaking moments, as the victims, Rabia and Elif (13 years old), were just about to reach the other side of the road when the truck struck them, causing severe injuries. They later died in the hospital, leaving a deep sense of grief in the coastal city.

Criminal investigations indicated that the girls attempted to cross at a red light, making them primarily responsible for the incident, while the young driver, who was operating the truck, bears secondary responsibility due to negligence.

Driver’s negligence The driver faces charges of “causing the death of two persons due to negligence,” but the court decided to postpone the trial and referred the case to the Istanbul Forensic Institute to accurately determine the responsibility of each party.

The road was initially clear of vehicles when the girls began crossing, but the truck appeared suddenly, preventing the avoidance of the tragic accident, which underscores the importance of adhering to traffic signals and ensuring pedestrian safety, especially for children and teenagers.
