Libyan authorities released shocking details of a crime that has captured public attention, in which a woman killed her newborn by throwing the baby to stray dogs just hours after giving birth.

The Criminal Investigation Department stated that the mother confessed to giving birth at her home in the eastern city of Derna, noting that the pregnancy resulted from an illicit relationship.

The suspect explained that she placed the infant in a plastic bag immediately after birth, took it to a trash site, and left it there, witnessing stray dogs attacking the baby without intervening.

The mother justified her actions by saying the child’s father, her cousin, had refused to acknowledge the pregnancy or take responsibility for the newborn.

The Criminal Investigation Department confirmed that all legal measures have been taken against both parents, referring them to the public prosecutor to complete investigations and proceed with trial, describing the act as utterly inhumane.
