Sultanate of Oman: Next Wednesday will complete the month of Sha’ban Next Thursday will mark the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan in the Sultanate of Oman

The Supreme Committee for the Observation of the Crescent announced the start date of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH, about a week before the holy month begins.

The committee stated in an official statement that Wednesday, February 18, will be the last day of Sha’ban, while Thursday, February 19, will be the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH.

The statement added that astronomical calculations confirmed the crescent of Ramadan on Tuesday, 29 Sha’ban 1447 AH, before or at sunset across all governorates of the Sultanate, noting that the crescent could not be sighted on that day.

The committee emphasized that this announcement ensures clarity for the public and facilitates spiritual and practical preparations for welcoming the holy month.

Muslims in the Sultanate are thus expected to begin fasting on Thursday, according to the official astronomical calculations.
