A man and woman were arrested after their newborn baby was bitten by an XL Bully dog during the first attempt to introduce the child to the pet in Yorkshire, UK.

The incident happened inside the home, and the baby was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The parents were detained on suspicion of child neglect.

The father remains in custody, while the mother was released on bail pending further investigations.

Inspector Steve Usher, from the police dog legislation team, said all dogs—regardless of breed, size, or temperament—can bite or attack, causing serious or even fatal injuries, noting that larger breeds may inflict more harm due to their physical strength.

He added that the case isn’t about blaming a specific breed, but about owners and parents understanding their responsibilities, warning that ignoring such risks could lead to more serious incidents in the future.
