- O’Hara known for iconic comedy roles
The death certificate of Canadian actress Catherine O’Hara confirmed that the cause of her passing was a pulmonary blockage, with colorectal cancer listed as an underlying condition.
O’Hara passed away last month at the age of 71, after what her family described as a “brief illness.”
Media outlets reported that the actress had been undergoing cancer treatment since March 2025.
O’Hara began her career in the improv comedy program Second City Television and earned her first Emmy in the early 1980s.
She went on to star in films such as Beetlejuice and Home Alone, as well as Christopher Guest’s improvisational comedies including Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration.
In recent years, O’Hara became closely associated with the role of Moira Rose in the comedy series Schitt’s Creek, with her colleagues expressing deep sorrow following her passing.
Her long-time collaborator Eugene Levy shared moving words: “Words cannot express my loss today. It has been my honor to know and work with Catherine O’Hara for over 50 years… I will miss her.”
