- Ran 188 km non-stop on a treadmill at Ipanema Beach
- Aims to claim his third consecutive world record
Pepe Fiamoncini covered 188 kilometres — more than four marathons — on a treadmill at an open-air gym on Rio de Janeiro’s Ipanema Beach.
Pending official verification from judges who followed the challenge via live stream, the achievement will earn him a new Guinness World Record, marking his third in a row.
The 35-year-old took only short breaks to change shoes or use the restroom.
“I define myself with one word: curious. I’m curious about what I’m capable of,” Fiamoncini said.
He added that he started exercising during the Covid pandemic when he signed up for an Ironman triathlon, which he considered “the pinnacle of human ability.”
After completing that challenge, he took on an Ultraman — more than double the distance — and then turned his focus to breaking Guinness World Records.
His first record came in May 2023, when he crossed Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flats, covering 170 km in just over 33 hours.
The vast white expanse sits at 3,600 meters above sea level, with extreme temperatures ranging from 30°C during the day to -10°C at night, while the previous record was 55 hours.
Having faced such harsh conditions, he decided to test his mental limits.
“I thought, what’s the most boring thing I hate? … Running non-stop in the same spot.”
In October, Fiamoncini set his second Guinness record by running 110 km in 12 hours on a treadmill, as a warm-up for the latest challenge he completed on Thursday.
