- Instagram Developing Feature to Remove Yourself from “Close Friends”
- Other tools may include viewing Stories without notifying the creator
Instagram continues to work on new features to keep users engaged.
Reports indicate that Meta, Instagram’s parent company, is currently developing a feature that would allow users to remove themselves from another person’s “Close Friends” list. The feature is still in its early stages and has not yet been released for public testing.
Introduced in 2018, the “Close Friends” feature allows users to share Stories and short videos (Reels) with a selected group of followers only.
Once a user removes themselves from someone else’s Close Friends list, they will no longer be able to view that person’s exclusive Stories and Reels unless they are added again.
Software engineer Alessandro Paluzzi also spotted signs of potential subscription-based tools, including unlimited audience lists, the ability to see who isn’t following the user back, and options to view Stories without notifying the creator.
Notably, Snapchat, one of Instagram’s main competitors, already offers a similar feature that lets users remove themselves from others’ private Stories.
