The Cairo economic appeals court upheld the acquittal of Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel-Wahab from charges of insulting and defaming her account manager.
The court reviewed the case brought by Abdel-Wahab’s account manager on social media platforms, claiming he was subjected to abuse and defamation through multiple channels, while the plaintiff’s lawyer demanded a temporary civil compensation of 200,000 Egyptian pounds (about 6,500 US dollars).
The case, in addition to the charges of insult and defamation, included additional accusations of misusing social media platforms and deliberately harassing the plaintiff.
Previously, Yasser Qantoush, the singer’s lawyer, had obtained an acquittal based on disputes over her account passwords, before the public prosecution decided to appeal the ruling.
