"Video" Sparks Controversy from Behind the Scenes of "Joy Awards" Al-Shami: Action Was Intentional and Shows Respect

A major wave of controversy swept across social media following the circulation of a video from behind the scenes of the 2026 Joy Awards, showing Syrian artist Al-Shami during his handshake with Lebanese star Nancy Ajram in a manner that many described as "unusual."

The clip shows Al-Shami shaking hands with Nancy Ajram and then leaning in to kiss her hand, which sparked a wave of mockery and criticism on social media, while others considered the gesture spontaneous and not worthy of such "exaggeration."

Breaking his silence, Al-Shami responded on Instagram, explaining that his action was intentional to express respect, especially since he had no prior personal acquaintance with Nancy Ajram. He emphasized that the meeting was purely protocol-based and carried no other implications.

He added: "The gesture is a symbolic act of respect," highlighting his commitment to maintaining personal boundaries during official events.
