U.S. President Donald Trump’s plane was forced to return to the United States shortly after takeoff on Tuesday evening while heading to Davos, Switzerland, due to what the White House described as a "minor electrical malfunction."

The White House explained that the presidential plane crew detected the issue after takeoff, prompting the decision to return to Joint Base Andrews "out of an abundance of caution."

Trump and members of the delegation will board another plane to continue the trip to Switzerland.

The president was on his way to attend the World Economic Forum meetings in Davos.

Before departure, he told reporters that the trip "will be interesting," noting that he did not know what would happen during it, but emphasized that his country was "well represented."
