The eldest daughter of a family in Lakewood, USA, survived a shooting incident that killed three members of her family.

She said her father had opened fire inside the house before ending his own life, according to homicide investigators at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities explained that the 19-year-old woman was the only survivor of the incident, after her father fired at her several times without hitting her, before shooting himself.

The police said their deputies responded on January 13 to a report of an assault with a firearm inside a home in Lakewood, where the caller said her father had shot at her and then collapsed nearby, unconscious.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the young woman exited the house in extreme distress, according to Lieutenant Daniel Vizcarra.

Inside the house, police found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper part of his body, later identified as Hector Lionel Alfaro, 52 years old.

His 48-year-old wife and their 17-year-old daughter were also found inside the home with gunshot injuries, and all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators detained the surviving young woman for questioning, and she said she had been asleep when she heard the gunfire, before her father appeared near her holding a firearm and fired at her several times without hitting her.

The police added that the father shot himself while standing near his eldest daughter.

Authorities recovered two firearms at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
