  • Man jailed after admitting to cockfighting and animal cruelty
  • 361birds and other animals rehomed after property search

A British court jailed Julian Buxton, 60, after he admitted participating in cockfighting and committing 14 animal-related offenses, including 10 offenses causing unnecessary suffering.

He was also banned from keeping animals for 15 years.

Will Mitchell from the RSPCA’s Special Operations Unit explained, “This case sadly shows that cockfighting still takes place despite being banned for nearly 200 years.”

The other offenses included four counts related to organizing or training animals for fighting, as well as attempting to cause an animal fight.

The court ordered Buxton to pay a £156 fine (approximately $192) and mandated that all animals in his possession be rehomed.

During a property search, Humberside Police and the RSPCA found 361 birds along with numerous other animals.

An RSPCA inspector noted that veterinarians identified multiple health issues among the animals and examined them individually, adding that the site was filled with rubbish and hazards such as wood, metal, and wire.

The animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, pigeons, and roosters, were rehomed into loving homes following the rescue.
