The Turkish police revealed that the explosion inside a residential complex in Istanbul a few days ago, which injured three people, was part of a dangerous revenge plot that nearly caused a major disaster in one of the city’s neighborhoods.
A video released after the investigation showed the moment a box containing toys and fireworks exploded while being opened inside the building.
The incident occurred on Sunday in a luxury residential complex in the Zeytinburnu district on Istanbul’s European side, shortly after the package arrived for the building’s security guards.
Investigations indicated that the sender targeted one of the guards over a prior financial dispute, choosing to carry out the act by sending a booby-trapped box.
Police noted that the guard suspected the package due to the absence of any commercial labels on it and, along with a colleague, called the apartment owner whose number was on the box. The owner arrived and began opening it when the explosion occurred.
The three individuals sustained varying injuries, none life-threatening, while the incident sparked widespread fear and concern before the details were revealed.
As part of the investigation, authorities arrested six suspects, including the sender, the person who delivered the package, and four others suspected of aiding in the crime.
