Libyan artist Mohammed Al-Taher passed away on Wednesday morning, leaving behind a prolific artistic career that has become an integral part of Libya’s artistic memory, according to the Libyan News Agency “WAL.”
The late artist, Mohammed Al-Taher, had suffered a sudden health setback days before his death, which required his hospitalization for treatment before his passing, causing widespread grief across artistic and cultural circles.
Many of the late artist’s colleagues expressed their condolences to his family, as dozens mourned him with moving words that reflected his significant stature. Among them was the poet Fawzi Al-Misbahy, who expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the passing of one of Libya’s artistic icons.
According to Libyan media, Mohammed Al-Taher is considered one of the most prominent and important names in the history of Libyan art. He left a clear mark in the hearts of the audience and produced distinguished works spanning theater and television, which received wide appreciation from critics and the public over many decades.
The Libyan News Agency stated that the late artist began his artistic career in the early 1970s, initially working as an administrative employee at the agency itself, before deciding to devote himself fully to the arts. He steadily forged his path to success and became one of the shining names in Libya’s cultural and artistic scene.
One of the most notable milestones of his career was his participation in the world-renowned film “The Message” directed by the late Syrian director Mustafa Akkad. Al-Taher was selected from a group of Libyan talents to take part in this massive cinematic project, which represented a major turning point in his professional career and opened doors to fame beyond Libya.
