Syrian actress Nadine Khoury appeared on a TV program in a candid interview, sharing her perspectives on the arts and personal experiences that drew viewers’ attention.
Khoury discussed the nature of relationships within the entertainment industry, saying: "Who actually has friends in the entertainment world? Do you still believe there is friendship in the entertainment field?"
She clarified that her close circle is mainly composed of people outside the industry while expressing respect for her colleagues, explaining: "I don’t have friends in the entertainment world and there is no exchange of visits between us, neither on regular days nor formal occasions, but they do send greetings on holidays via WhatsApp."
Khoury described friendship as a bond exceeding traditional ties, stating: "Friendship rises above brotherhood. It is openness, purity, honesty, and life. It doesn’t exist in every environment; when self-interest enters, people just say hello."
She added that when self-interest dominates relationships, their human essence disappears.
The actress also spoke about her personal life, addressing her decision not to marry or have children, and criticizing society’s harsh judgments toward unmarried women.
Khoury admitted to taking medication for stress during difficult periods in her life.
She surprised the host when asked about her dream of wearing a wedding dress, replying: "Since I was a child, I foolishly repeated, ‘I was not born to marry,’ and when I grew up, learned, and entered the entertainment world, I confirmed that I was made not to marry."
She emphasized her stance, saying: "The best decision I’ve made in my life is not to marry."
When asked if she considered this a personal achievement, she responded: "Yes, my greatest accomplishment."
Khoury clarified her opinion, adding: "Marriage is blessed by God, and what I say reflects my personal view. I advise young men and women not to take my perspective literally. I may be wrong, but this is my way of thinking and my conviction."
She stressed that she does not rate her own artistic work, believing that only audiences and critics have the authority to judge.
Khoury criticized the use of the title “Professor” in the arts, asserting that acting is based on talent and innovation, not titles.
She concluded by saying that a true actor is one who continuously develops their skills rather than performing mechanically without spirit.
