The U.S. police arrested actor Kiefer Sutherland following allegations that he assaulted and threatened a ride-share driver in Hollywood, according to an official statement.
Los Angeles police responded to a report of an assault just after midnight near an intersection south of Hollywood Hills.
The police said Sutherland "entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats" in the incident, which occurred at 12:15 a.m. local time on Monday.
The driver was unharmed and did not require medical treatment, the police added.
Sutherland was released a few hours later on a $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on February 2.
Sutherland, born in Canada to British parents, is best known for his longtime role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the TV thriller series 24.
He also appeared in films such as The Lost Boys and Young Guns, as well as in Rob Reiner’s movies Stand by Me and A Few Good Men.
The actor is the son of Hollywood icon Donald Sutherland and has a prior record of alcohol-related arrests, including a 2007 jail sentence for driving under its influence and a similar conviction in 2004.
