The death of Iraqi doctor Esraa Al-Taan has shocked the Iraqi society, after she passed away due to severe injuries sustained in an assault by her husband, who set her on fire in mid-December in Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraq.
According to medical sources, Al-Taan’s condition rapidly deteriorated after she suffered bacterial blood poisoning as a result of the severe burns she sustained, leading to the failure of several vital organs, including the respiratory system.
Passing after a month of treatment Despite the relentless efforts of doctors to save her life, she passed away after a month of continuous treatment in several Iraqi hospitals, according to local media.
The head of Nineveh Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Mohammad Al-Houri, stated that he "is closely following the case," emphasizing that the syndicate provides "full support to complete legal procedures to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable for his heinous crime," describing the incident as "a major shock to both the medical and social spheres."
Violent assault The doctor had been violently attacked by her husband, who set fire to her car using gasoline while she was inside.
Security authorities arrested the accused husband and immediately began taking all necessary legal measures against him.
