Six residents lost their lives, while seven others suffered from suffocation, following a sudden fire that broke out inside an addiction treatment facility in the city of Benha, located in Qalyubia Governorate, north of Egypt.
In the aftermath of the incident, the bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgue of Benha Teaching Hospital, while the injured were rescued and taken to the same hospital to receive the necessary medical care. Security authorities also filed an official report, and the Public Prosecution launched an investigation, ordering the forensic laboratory to determine the causes of the fire.
Civil defense forces immediately rushed to the scene, deploying ten ambulances and three fire engines. Specialized teams managed to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby buildings.
Relevant authorities continue their efforts to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify its causes, alongside taking all necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of patients and surrounding facilities.
In the same context, local media reports, citing eyewitnesses, suggested that a natural gas leak is likely behind the sudden outbreak of the fire, explaining its rapid spread and large scale.
