  • Armed men kill ice factory owner in Monirampur by day
  • Investigation continues amid rising attacks on certain communities

An ice factory owner was shot dead by armed men in broad daylight in the Monirampur area of Jesore, according to a Bengali-language newspaper from Dhaka.

Local reports stated that Rana Pratap Bairagi, owner of an ice factory in Kapalia Bazar, Monirampur, also served as acting editor of a newspaper published from Narail.

Media sources explained that three armed men on a motorcycle called him out from the factory, took him to an alley, and then shot him at close range in the head before fleeing, resulting in his immediate death.

The officer in charge at the Monirampur police station, Md Raziullah Khan, said the body was taken for a post-mortem examination.

He added that the police have not yet determined the motive behind the crime and that the investigation is ongoing.

This incident comes amid rising attacks and growing security concerns faced by certain communities in the area over the past few weeks.

A similar tragic event recently drew national attention when Khokon Das, a Hindu man, died from injuries after attackers set him on fire on New Year’s Eve.

According to reports, Das was assaulted with sharp weapons, had petrol poured on his body, and was set ablaze.

He tried to save himself by jumping into a nearby pond beside the road, prompting local residents to rush to his aid, forcing the attackers to flee.

Das was initially taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to Dhaka, but later succumbed to his injuries.
