Elon Musk’s AI platform Grok faces widespread criticism after reports emerged that its image-editing tool was exploited to produce inappropriate content involving children and women.
The company acknowledged the issue in a statement on X, confirming gaps in its safeguards and promising urgent corrections.
Grok added that protecting users and preventing illegal content is a top priority.
Users criticized the tool after the “edit image” button was launched in late December, which allows modifying images on the platform. The feature was exploited to alter images of women and children in concerning ways, sparking broad backlash.
Legal experts in the U.S. warn that companies could face criminal penalties if they knowingly allow or fail to prevent the creation or sharing of illegal content involving children.
In India, authorities requested X to provide details on steps taken to remove inappropriate content generated by Grok without consent.
In France, the public prosecutor expanded investigations into X following allegations that Grok was used to create and distribute harmful content involving children.
Grok confirmed it will implement rapid fixes to ensure user safety and prevent any illegal use of the tool.
