The Moroccan artist Laila Ghofran sparked a wide wave of interaction on social media, following moving statements in which she spoke about her continuous psychological suffering since her daughter Heba El Akkad was killed nearly 18 years ago, in a crime that shook Egypt in 2008 and caused a major media uproar.
Ghofran explained, in her interview with media outlets, that she still lives with deep psychological pain, emphasizing that the wound of loss has not healed since her daughter’s departure, and that time has not succeeded in easing its weight.
The artist described her feelings as a harsh inner break, considering that her daughter’s absence left an irreplaceable void, noting that she feels as if a part of her has been gone forever after her death.
She added that punishing the perpetrator did not contribute to alleviating the pain that resides within her, stressing that losing her daughter is a loss no punishment or sentence can compensate for.
She expressed her deep anguish that her daughter will never return to her, considering that her absence from her arms has formed a permanent wound that will never heal no matter how much time passes.
The artist also spoke about the deep psychological impact that the crime left on the details of her daily life, confirming that coming to terms with what happened remained an extremely harsh matter for her, despite all legal procedures being completed against the offender.
She further pointed to her intention to return soon to the music scene with the arrival of the new year, after a long absence imposed by the psychological crises following her daughter’s murder.
She said that her absence from the artistic scene was not due to weakness or surrender, but resulted from a harsh sense of brokenness after losing the dearest thing in her life, confirming at the same time that she still possesses the strength and will to face life again despite all the difficult experiences she has gone through.
