A 12-year-old British boy died in a tragic accident, reportedly while attempting to imitate a scene from a popular TV series, according to an official investigation.
The child, Sebastian Cheesman, was found hanging inside his family home in Castleford, before being rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
The Wakefield inquest reported that the boy had been playing in the garden, then returned indoors saying he felt tired. Shortly after, a relative found him while bringing him an ice cream his father had bought for him after returning from work.
Investigations revealed that on the day of his death, he had shared a photo of a character from a TV series in a similar scene, leading police to suspect he had tried to imitate what he saw, though it ended unintentionally.
His family described Sebastian as well-liked among his schoolmates, known for making friends laugh, and noted he had previously pretended to faint while playing.
Police confirmed there was no evidence he had participated in dangerous online challenges, despite watching the series and searching for first-aid clips on YouTube.
The investigating authority clarified that speculations about “dangerous online challenges” arose after the incident, but the investigation found no supporting evidence.
The family stated they had discussed the risks of such phenomena with their child, and he had assured them he would not try them.
The assistant coroner concluded the death was the result of an unfortunate accident, while the child’s school principal expressed deep sorrow, describing him as a beloved and cheerful student, nicknamed “the star of the class.”
In a statement, his parents said they believe their son’s death was a tragic, unintended accident.
