Scotland's largest hospital issued an apology after a bereaved family received the wrong body for a cremation ceremony.

Morgue staff at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow delivered a mislabelled body to the undertakers.

The error was only discovered after the funeral and cremation were completed.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde attributed the mistake to human error, noting that the staff involved had been suspended.

A local newspaper reported that the family who thought they were cremating their relative remains inconsolable, while another family was denied the chance to have their loved one’s body for a funeral.
