Rescue teams found the bodies of three children on Monday in Şanlıurfa Province, after the car they were traveling in with their father and several relatives overturned while heading to school, despite the authorities announcing the suspension of official classes due to snowy weather.

The 42-year-old father was driving his three children and several family members in the Harran area in southern Turkey when his car slipped on the icy roads and veered into an irrigation canal.

Two people managed to escape by breaking the car windows, while the father and the three children went missing at the moment of the overturn.

According to local authorities, the car was found in the river and pulled out, while rescue teams continue to search for the missing father.

Wide areas of Turkey are experiencing varying levels of snowfall, which has led to the suspension of school in 15 provinces, including Şanlıurfa, which officially announced the closure on Sunday evening through its official platforms.
