Meta is testing new restrictions on sharing external links for some professional accounts and Facebook pages

Each post may include only two links, unless the user subscribes to Meta Verified for $14.99 per month.

The company explained that the test focuses on professional accounts and business pages, while publishers are currently excluded, and sharing links in comments or across other Meta platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp remains unrestricted.

Its Q3 transparency report revealed that over 98% of views in the United States come from posts without links, reflecting the company’s shift toward reducing content with external links and promoting native content.

Meta added that the goal of the test is to evaluate the value for Verified subscribers to publish more links, as part of its strategy to keep users within its ecosystem and encourage the use of native platform content instead of external links.

Digital marketing experts noted that the new limits may force content creators and brands to pay to retain the ability to post links or reconsider their strategies, reflecting a shift of social media platforms toward closed environments focused on engagement and revenue rather than free audience reach.
