34year old mechanic dies in Bengaluru after delays and hospitals’ refusal to provide urgent treatment, sparking renewed concerns over emergency healthcare response and public negligence.
Venkataramanan, a resident of Balaji Nagar, suffered severe chest pain at his home.
With no ambulance or immediate medical assistance available, his wife transported him on a motorcycle to seek urgent treatment, according to a local newspaper.
The report stated that the first private hospital refused to admit him, citing the unavailability of a doctor on site.
At the second hospital, doctors performed an electrocardiogram (ECG) which showed he had suffered a mild heart attack, but the family said no emergency treatment was provided, nor was an ambulance arranged to transfer him to a better-equipped facility.
While attempting to reach another hospital, the couple was involved in a road accident while traveling on the motorcycle.
CCTV footage showed the wife desperately appealing to passing motorists for help while her injured husband lay on the road, as several vehicles passed without stopping to assist.
Police asked the local community to remain "patient" while investigations are carried out at the house and surrounding areas.
Police presence in the streets around the scene will be increased in the coming days, with Avon and Somerset Police confirming that there is no risk to the wider public.
