  • "All That’s Left of You" enters the Oscars 2026 short list
  • It depicts three Palestinian generations and their experiences from the Nakba until today

The Jordanian film "All That’s Left of You" by director and writer Cherien Dabis was nominated for the Oscars short list, marking a significant achievement that highlights Jordanian and Palestinian cinema.

The film covers three generations of a Palestinian family forced to leave the city of Yafa during the Nakba and settle in the West Bank, showcasing stories of sacrifice, resilience, and resistance over decades.

Its events focus on a Palestinian teenager experiencing the protests in the West Bank, while his mother recounts the family’s story since 1948, highlighting a continuous journey of struggle and hope.

The film was entirely shot in Jordan, between Amman and Al-Balqa Governorate, over six weeks, featuring a cast of prominent Palestinian and Arab actors, including Saleh Bakri, Adam Bakri, Muhammad Bakri, and Maria Zreiq. Director Cherien Dabis also performed some scenes.

The production has a budget ranging between $5 million and $8 million.

It is one of the rare films addressing the Palestinian issue with such a scale and attention in the West, and it received support from the Royal Jordanian Film Commission’s financial incentive program to encourage local filmmaking.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 15 films qualified for the next stage of voting in the Best International Feature Film category in the 98th Oscars.

This year, submissions were possible from 86 countries and regions.

Experts indicate that these selections reflect growing international interest in Palestinian voices and creators, especially at major global festivals and international award platforms.

Academy members from all branches were invited to participate in the preliminary voting round, and they were required to meet a minimum viewing threshold to qualify.

During the nominations stage, members choosing to participate must watch all fifteen films on the short list before casting their votes.

The final nominations will be announced after this round, narrowing the list before the awards ceremony.
