Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has implemented its decision to discontinue the Messenger app on certain devices starting Monday, December 15, 2025.
This may prevent some users from accessing their chat history through the app.
Messenger is Facebook's instant messaging app, which has evolved into a comprehensive tool for instant messaging, voice and video calls, and media sharing.
It is currently available via the mobile app, the web, or desktop, with login possible using a Facebook account or phone number.
In an official statement, Meta confirmed that the Messenger app for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac is no longer officially available, noting that "users will not be able to log in to the app and will be automatically redirected to use the Facebook desktop app (Windows) or Facebook website (Mac) for messaging."
