The police in Hong Kong said that they had arrested a passenger who was on a flight from Boston to Hong Kong, after the man tried to open the airplane door during the flight.

The company confirmed that none of the passengers or crew members were harmed, and the plane landed safely at an early time.

It added that the crew inside the cabin intervened immediately, inspected the door to ensure it was securely closed, and informed the relevant authorities and police about the incident.

Cathay Pacific said: "The case has been referred to the police for investigation. At Cathay, the safety of our customers and crew guides every decision we make."

The police in Hong Kong confirmed the incident, noting that a 20-year-old man from China had been arrested on suspicion of violating aviation security law.
