The American music scene was shocked by the death of renowned musician Rodrick McCloud, aged 70, and a former Grammy nominee, following a tragic accident during a morning walk with his dog in Rhode Island. Fate was only a few steps away, yet it did not give him the chance to survive.
According to the New York Post, the accident occurred in the town of Hopkinton when Shannon Goodbutt (41) lost control of her car, veered off the road, hit telephone poles, and struck McCloud, who was calmly walking with his dog. He was immediately transported to Rhode Island Hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival, while his dog survived and returned home on its own.

Investigations revealed that Goodbutt possessed quantities of illegal drugs and packaging materials typically used for distribution. She faces charges including reckless driving causing death and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, along with a criminal record comprising more than 100 arrests, 82 warrants, and 40 traffic violations. She is scheduled to appear before the magistrate court before being referred to the district attorney as a "habitual offender."
Rodrick McCloud left a rich musical legacy, having been inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2012 with the band Roomful of Blues, and he received a Grammy nomination in the 1980s for his work with the band. In his later years, he served as a teaching assistant at Brown University and as the director of the Old-Time String Band affiliated with the university, leaving a profound impact on American music.
His passing triggered a wave of grief in the artistic community, as colleagues and fans mourned his long career and significant contributions to the music scene, affirming that his music will remain alive in the hearts of art lovers.
