- Users can now adjust algorithms based on interests
- The feature is currently available only in the "Reels" tab
Instagram has launched a new feature that gives users the ability to control the content they see through an option called "Your Algorithm," available within the app’s "Reels" tab.
Tessa Lyons, Instagram’s Vice President of Product, explained in an interview with a media program that the system uses artificial intelligence to summarize users’ interests based on their activity within the app, and users can adjust these interests if they are not accurate.
Through the new tab, users can tap an icon with two lines and hearts in the top right corner of the screen to access a personal dashboard showing their most frequent interests.
Within this dashboard, they can specify the type of content they want to see more or less of.
Lyons noted that the ability to provide direct feedback will enhance the user experience on Instagram, emphasizing that the feature gives users greater control and customization over "Reels" content.
Lance Ulanoff, a technology site editor, confirmed that this step represents an important leap toward understanding how users interact with algorithms.
An official Instagram blog explained that the new feature allows users to view core interests, adjust preferences, and share content with followers via Stories.
The platform added that it will initially roll out this feature in the "Reels" tab, with plans to expand it to the Explore tab and other areas of the app soon.
