Two young men from Panna district in Madhya Pradesh, India, discovered a large, high-quality diamond weighing 15.34 carats, estimated to be worth around $61,000.
Satish Khatik and Sajid Mohammad had rented a small plot in the Krishna Kalyanpur area just 20 days earlier.
Khatik works in a small meat shop, while the other works at a fruit stall, making their sudden discovery a striking contrast to their modest daily lives.
Officials in the area confirmed the authenticity of the stone and stated that it has now been deposited for auction, according to a local report.
If sold at the expected value, this major find could significantly change the financial situation of the two young men.
Panna remains one of the few regions in India where leasing mining plots is legally permitted, with all discovered stones deposited at the district diamond office, which organizes auctions after deducting fees and taxes, and the remainder goes to the finder.
