A zoo in Venezuela celebrated the birth of twin white lion cubs, an endangered species.

The twins were born at Maracay Delicias Zoo as part of the zoo’s conservation and breeding program.

The zoo administration announced a naming contest, inviting local residents to submit suggestions.

The male cub will remain with his mother, while the female cub has been temporarily separated to receive assisted feeding.

The public will be able to see the cubs after confirming their healthy growth.

The zoo director, Vanessa Rodriguez, confirmed that the zoo has begun documenting their images on official channels.

It is worth noting that white lions are not albino; their white color results from a unique genetic mutation found only in South Africa, believed to be native to the Timbavati region.

The unique color of the twins comes from a recessive gene similar to the one that causes blue eyes in humans.

These twins are considered the first white lion birth in Venezuela since 2023, following the birth of three other cubs.

The number of remaining white lions worldwide is estimated at fewer than 200, with only about 10 in the wild in their natural habitats.

No adult white lion has been seen in the wild since 1992.
