A man in the UK was convicted of identity theft after posing as a registered nurse, and was sentenced to more than three years in prison.

According to Liverpool court reports, Ashton Goramatonho, 46, registered with a nursing agency in Warrington in 2014 using the identity of a real nurse.

According to Cheshire Police, Goramatonho, a resident of Bobs Place in Kingswinford near Dudley, worked in six care homes in Northeast England.

Inspector Naomi Sargent, who led the investigation, said the accused, sentenced to 40 months in prison, “put the lives of vulnerable patients at risk for his own financial gain.”

Goramatonho previously admitted to fraud by identity theft.

Police stated that he was arrested in 2019 after the real nurse whose identity he had stolen contacted the Nursing and Midwifery Council regarding a “practice competency” session that he had no part in.

After the sentence, Inspector Sargent said: “Goramatonho should never have worked as a nurse,” adding that she does not doubt he would have continued committing crimes if he hadn’t been arrested.
