A shocking incident shook the Sohag Governorate in Upper Egypt after an 18-year-old girl assaulted another girl, 9 years old, by strangulation, with the aim of stealing her gold earring and selling it.

Investigations revealed that the accused was closely connected to the victim’s mother, which doubled the shock for the family and sparked widespread anger and outrage.

Financial hardship Investigations showed that the girl was going through financial difficulties, so she decided to lure the child to an abandoned house nearby to steal her earring.

The investigations also indicated that the accused waited for the victim near the house as she returned from school, deceiving her by saying she would help her buy some household necessities, before taking her to the abandoned house and taking the earring.

However, fear that the child might expose her actions led her to strangle the girl, then flee the scene.

The child’s family stated that after noticing her delay from her usual return time, they searched for her before notifying the police, who found the girl’s body inside the abandoned house.

Police teams managed to arrest the accused, who admitted to committing the act for theft, while the Public Prosecution undertook an investigation to take the necessary legal measures.
