- Search continues for missing British teen in Romanian mountains
- Family and UK authorities hope to find him safe
Search operations are underway for George Smyth , an 18-year-old British teen who has been missing for over a week while hiking in the Bucegi Mountains in Romania.
Smyth is believed to have left the Poiana Brașov area heading toward Bran, home of Dracula’s Castle, and reached Țegănești, where he called for help via the 112 emergency number.
The Brașov Mountain Rescue Service said searches have been ongoing daily since November 23, without locating him.
His rugby club in Newport, Shropshire, described Smith as “a beloved member of the club” and expressed their thoughts for his family and friends, hoping for his safe return soon.
His university confirmed it is in close contact with his family and expressed deep concern for his safety.
The UK Foreign Office noted its support for the Smyth family and ongoing communication with local authorities in Romania.
