An 8-year-old American boy is recovering after receiving an electric shock while sleeping in his bed, in an incident that shook his family and raised warnings for parents about the dangers of having electronic devices in children’s bedrooms.

His mother, Courtney Pendleton, told People magazine that her son, Lorenzo Lopez, was asleep with his phone connected to a loosely secured extension cord. As he moved during his sleep, his necklace fell between the extension cord and the charger, causing an electric shock.

"A Terrifying Incident"

Lopez described the incident as “terrifying,” with his mother adding that a hospital staff member told her her son would have faced a fatal shock if he hadn’t been able to remove the necklace himself.

The child was taken to the hospital, where he underwent a skin graft procedure, and he is expected to remain under care for two weeks to monitor his recovery.

Through posts on Facebook, his mother urged all parents to keep electronic devices away from children’s beds to prevent similar accidents, noting that her son wants to share his story to save other children’s lives: “Take Lorenzo’s story as a warning—do not leave your children with electronic devices while they sleep.”
