Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred is set to appear before a court in southeastern France on Monday in a case dating back to 2018, involving allegations of inappropriate behavior toward an employee during a meeting. The Arab world-famous star denies the accusations.
Lamjarred (40) will appear in court alone, with the trial scheduled to begin at 14:00 at the Draguignan Criminal Court, and the verdict expected next Thursday.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Dominique Lardan, announced that her client will request a closed hearing, telling AFP that she is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to fully present her case.
The beginning of the encounter In August 2018, Lardan met Lamjarred in a public place in Saint-Tropez, southeastern France. She said she did not know he was a famous artist but agreed to have a drink with him at the hotel where he was staying.
She stated that she felt uncomfortable due to his behavior, while Lamjarred insisted the meeting was consensual. A blood alcohol test conducted hours later showed her level between 1.2 and 1.4 g/L, and his between 1.6 and 1.8 g/L.
Lamjarred previously faced similar allegations in Morocco in 2015 and in the United States in 2010. In France, he was sentenced in 2023 to six years in prison after being convicted in a similar incident in Paris in 2016, a verdict he has appealed, maintaining his innocence.
His appellate trial, originally scheduled for June in Créteil near Paris, was postponed. Other individuals involved in the case are also facing charges related to attempting to extort money in exchange for withdrawing the complaint.
